Parveen Talpur is an author, archaeologist, and historian originally from Pakistan. Growing up in rural Sindh at a time when village storytellers still lived to narrate the stories of a magical past and where Mohenjo Daro, the 5000 years old well-known city of the Indus Civilization, was discovered, Parveen has always believed in the power of storytelling.
In fact, her career as a writer and an archaeologist began simultaneously as she tailored her first archaeological reports to feature articles for general readers and published them in the Dawn and PakistanTimes, the two most widely circulated English newspapers.
Later at Cornell University, New York her research (1990-97) was focussed on the images engraved on miniature seals discovered from the Indus Civilization. Parveen’s passion for deciphering the Indus symbols and interpreting the ancient stories continues but she enjoys writing across a variety of niches. Apart from her books on Mohenjo Daro and the Indus seals, she has published a Trilogy of Pakistani women, a children’s novel and a significant number of short stories, poems, essays and articles in Pakistani and American newspapers, magazines and anthologies. She is now writing a book on her family’s history. You can visit her website https://parveentalpur.com/ to learn more about her writing.
Su George: Hi my name is Su George and I am looking forward to meeting you in June and July for our very special women’s retreats in the beautiful Finger Lakes region where I have resided for the past 22 years as a mother, a wife, a friend, and a Chinese language instructor at Cornell. While I enjoy helping my students expand their horizons, I always love stories and particularly love hearing real life stories from my peers who have experienced life and still choose to stay engaged with their community.
